Quantum Computers

A quantum computer is a computing device that uses the principles of quantum mechanics, specifically superposition, entanglement, and interference, to process information in ways that are fundamentally different from classical computers.

Why it matters. Quantum computers are not simply faster classical computers. They represent a different model of computation that can solve certain categories of problems (quantum simulation, certain optimization problems, cryptographic tasks) exponentially or polynomially faster than any classical machine. Building a practical quantum computer requires solving challenges across physics, engineering, computer science, and materials science simultaneously: high-quality qubits, precise control electronics, error correction, compilation, and software. The field is transitioning from small-scale demonstrations to the engineering-driven scaling phase, where integrated systems of hardware, software, and control must work together reliably.
